Thai cuisine is, without a doubt, one of the best and most exquisite in the world. As we have missed it for some time, on Wednesday we went to the "Thai Lounge", a beautiful Thai restaurant in the heart of the Eixample ... a few meters from Passeig de Gracia!

The place is great, with decorative elements typical of the fantastic Thai culture. We also have the kindness of Kennet and Kris, two very nice waitresses who have served us wonderfully and have explained the recipes of the dishes. They actually beat us from the first minute, when they welcomed us with a cool Mai tai: thank you very much girls!

Do you know what we have eaten? As we could not decide, in the end we opted for tasting menu. It consists of 5 starters (poh pia, dim sum, tod man moo, kai sate), 3 seconds (khung kiew, massaman thai, kai kra pao) and dessert. Have you heard anything? Do not worry that we are going to tell you what the dishes consisted of, but we already told you that everything was delicious ... as you can tell the chefs are Thai!

Look what it paints, it was almost penite to eat it ... but as we are more gluttonous than sensitive, we have eaten them and mmm that rich! They consisted of:

  • POH PIA: It is the Thai roll, made with soy and vegetable noodles. You have to add sweet and sour sauce to appreciate the flavors to the fullest.
  • DIM SUM: wanton pasta pie stuffed with chicken meat and steamed. For dumplings-addicts like us ... a safe value!
  • TOD MAN MOO: what we liked the most! It is a pork croquette with Thai spices and soft curry. Slightly spicy and delicious! Besides, I think he had ginger ... we love it
  • KAI SATEE: Another safe value ... as we like chicken skewers with peanut sauce! We even learned to do them, although of course ... this one was 100 times better!
  • YAM WUN SEN: Temperate salad of soy noodles seasoned with lime and chili sauce. And on top of fried battered prawns.

  • KHUNG KIEW: Tails of prawns cooked with soft yellow curry.
  • MASSAMAN THAI: Veal with massaman curry with potatoes and cashews.
  • KAI KRA PAO: Strips of chicken breast lightly spiced and sautéed in wok with onion and basil.

All three were super rich, although I loved Khung Kiew, and Rober's favorite was Massaman thai. You want to eat them now! The truth is that at times they transported us in time and brought us very special memories.

For dessert we tried:

  • BANANA STICKY RICE: in Thailand we had tried mango sticky rice ... a dessert made with "sticky" rice and coconut milk with mango strips. This one was equally good, but with banana instead of mango! The taste is unique!
  • COCONUT FLAN: Imagine the flan of a lifetime, but made with coconut. Delicious ... especially because coconut is one of our favorite fruits!

In short, if you want to move to the most smiling country in the Far East, without leaving Barcelona, the Thai Lounge is a success! The staff will take care of you, the restaurant is full of details, the atmosphere is romantic and if you are lucky, like us, you will have even a Buddha who accompanies you in the meal!
