Are you here looking for ideas for your 3-week travel itinerary to Europe? You have reached the right place 🙂

If you travel to Europe for the first time, chances are you want to see everything! Or so we believe, since that is what we would like to do to us. But unless you don't have unlimited time and good savings, we have bad news: you're going to have to give up something. Hey, don't be sad that there is also great news: 3 weeks is enough time to get to know some of the most beautiful and representative places in Europe, especially if you don't mind traveling at a fairly busy pace.

We are lucky to know much of Europe and, although it is true that for tastes the colors, yes there are cities that we want to include yes or yes in this 3-week travel itinerary to Europe. So here we go, this is our proposal:

- Transportation tips -

- To make the most of your time, choose the flights / trains that leave early in the morning (even if you have to hit a good early morning) or late at night. This way you will have almost all day to devote to the city.

- Another more backpacking option is to take night trains / buses on the paths where you can. They are more uncomfortable, but you save on accommodation and optimize travel time for visits.

- Compare prices and schedules of flights in the web Skyscanner.

- Compare prices and schedules of trains and buses in the web Omio. If you register through this link you will receive a € 10 bonus to spend the transportation reservation.

- Keep in mind that the airlines put baggage limits. Here you can see the baggage policies of the main airlines in Europe.

- As for price, the cheapest thing would be the bus, and then the train and the plane. But between these last two there can be great variations: for example the Eurostar can be twice as expensive as a flight, or if you don't find flights with low cost companies for a specific date, it can be quite expensive ...

- To get the best deals Book flights in advance (two to three months is fine). For trains and buses it is also important to make reservations in advance, but in this case you can find that the calendar is not open yet (for example trains in Italy are usually sold at most two months or two months and a half in advance ).

Day 1- MADRID -

Let's say your flight arrives in Madrid (great choice). We recommend you spend only one whole day in the capital of Spain, yes, you will have to kick it well hehe. Obviously the ideal would be to have more time, but if you want to make a route through Europe complete ... you will have to sacrifice something 😉

Tip: do this free tour.

Days 2 and 3- BARCELONA -

In Barcelona, it is best to stay for 2 full days (that Madrid people do not get pissed off), since there are a few essential things to do. In addition to wandering around the old town, there are other visits to spend time, such as the Sagrada Familia, the Picasso Museum or Casa Batlló. And if you are traveling in good weather, try to take a small hole to take a dip in the Mediterranean.

Transport: to go from Madrid to Barcelona you have the three options: bus, train and plane. But having a few days, we rule out the bus option (unless you want to travel on a night bus to save time). So we stay with the flight or the train, provided that the latter is with the AVE (the fast trains of Spain).

Days 4, 5 and 6- PARIS -

Paris deserves 3 days of time, it is one of the largest cities and with more things to do in all of Europe. What to say about the city of Amour? That there are no words that can describe it ... strolling through the cobbled streets of Montmartre, climbing the Eiffel Tower, kicking the Latin Quarter, making a cross by the Seine and of course putting yourself up to the kiko of macaroons and crepes is something you have to do Yes or yes. If you had to cut time, we DO NOT advise doing it in Paris.

Transport: In this case too, the best way to travel to Paris from Barcelona is by flight. Ryanair usually has very good offers, but beware, in Paris there are several airports, and Ryanair goes to Beauvais, which is in the fifth pine. Whenever you can, try to avoid it (for example Transavia Vueling or Easyjet fly to the others: Orly and Charles de Gaulle) If you prefer to save a hotel night, you can travel by night bus with Flixbus (it's more than 15 hours!).

Days 7, 8 and 9- LONDON -

London is a surprising and very, very big city. It is best to schedule the visit well so as not to waste useful time. We recommend 3 days for being one of the most exciting and different destinations in Europe, but if you are not too urban and prefer old cities, you could cut a day in London (as long as you have transport schedules that allow you to be those two whole days here).

Transport: These two great capitals of Europe are separated by the English Channel, which does not mean that you can only travel by plane. With the Eurotunel you will have three options: take a night bus (about 9 hours) with Flixbus; go by plane for what you will not lack alternatives because it is a very common route (Easyjet or Vueling are two of them); or with the fast Eurostar train, which is not cheap but it is an excellent alternative to the plane.

Day 10- AMSTERDAM -

The most famous city in the Netherlands seems to us to be one of the most beautiful in Europe, it will be by its canals or by its brown houses, but it has something that hooks (and no, we don't talk only about its coffeeshops, that too). This site is cool and will give a special touch to your trip through Europe. We have put only one day for two reasons: the accommodations in Amsterdam are quite expensive, and as usual: to optimize the weather! But if you can include one more night, it would be ideal.

Transport: You can find fairly cheap flights between London and Amsterdam (especially with the Easyjet airline). Going by night bus is not crazy either, it takes about 11 hours to arrive. And the third alternative and great news is the Eurostar train, which makes the direct route between these cities in less than 4 hours!

Days 11 and 12- BERLIN -

We continue with our 3-week travel itinerary to Europe With the capital of Germany, which is undoubtedly a city that, if you can understand its roll, will conquer you little by little. Two days are not enough to get to know her well, but you can get an idea of her spirit (they say, the least German of all Germany). Our favorite plans are to tour the Turkish quarter of Kreuzberg, visit the East Side Gallery, the Brandenburg Gate and the curious Tempelhof, an old airport converted into a park. Oh, and dedicate at least one morning or one afternoon to Museum Island, where most of the best museums in the city are concentrated.

Transport: by road they are less than 700 km between both cities, which means that if it is possible to do it by night bus (about 8 hours). There are trains that also make this journey, although they are not too fast (about 6 hours) and are more expensive. Our recommendation is to go by plane (in this case also Easyjet operates).

Days 13 and 14- PRAGUE -

We do not know a person who has not fallen before the charm of Prague, and it is that the capital of the Czech Republic, something else, but beautiful is a while. Seeing its extraordinary astronomical clock, walking through the alleys of the historic center, climbing the castle, drinking beer and crossing the Charles Bridge are just 4 of the many things to see and do in the city, where you will find what you are looking for in Europe: transport you to distant times.

Transport:: in this case the best option would be to take a day bus, since they are only 350 km and take just over 4 hours. Try to leave early to arrive mid-morning. In addition the price will be cheap, about € 15. If you prefer to travel by train, there is also this option, they are more comfortable although they take a little longer, the price is more or less the same.

Days 15 and 16- BUDAPEST -

Elegant, stately but with a rebel soul and spice flavor. The Hungarian capital seems to us one of the most interesting cities in all of Europe: its personality flows fast like the Danube and is a kaleidoscope of experiences ... From the ruinpubs to the magnificence of buildings like the Parliament or the Fisherman's Bastion, from its spas To food markets. There are things for all tastes.

Transport: Although the distance is not much (about 550km), going by bus is like 7 hours, so it eats you quite a while. The train is not an interesting option, since a change would have to be made in Vienna. So the best option would be to travel by plane, especially if you get a good price with Ryanair.

Itinerary variation: If you had flexibility and / or more time, we suggest you stop in Vienna, spend the night and continue towards Budapest. Ideally, spend 5 or 6 days between Prague, Vienna and Budapest.

Here you have our travel guide to Budapest

Days 17 and 18- VENICE -

Ohhh how cute is Venice. We have visited it countless times and whenever we return ... we like it a little more! If your plane arrives early you can make the most of the days on the island. The first one could be dedicated to getting to know the essentials of Venice, and the second to make an excursion to Murano and Burano. Do not forget to eat the famous cicchetti, the venet version of tapas. Accommodation in Venice is expensive, so it would not be a bad option to just stay one day (giving up excursions), as long as you arrive early, and leave for Florence the next day.

Transport: Ryanair operates the route between Budapest and Venice, so it would be the best option. Although the alternative is to travel on a night bus with Flixbus, it takes around 10 hours and leaves for about € 20-30. The train is not an alternative.

Day 19- FLORENCE -

One day is just to know Florence, but if you want ... you can! It is the city of rebirth, and one of the most beautiful cities in the world! Losing track of time walking through its streets is normal, but take some time to visit the Galleria degli Uffizi and the Galleria dell'Accademia. And of course, gastronomy in this area of Italy is what you enjoy. Remember that you are in the heart of Tuscany and if you have time on your trip through Europe we propose you as an alternative to rent a car and tour this region for a few days, or do an organized excursion during the day.

Transport: the best way to travel from Venice to Florence is by train. You can buy tickets in trenitalia or italotreno, if you book in advance you will have very good prices. If you have not got the offer and the price of the train is excessive, there is also the option of traveling by bus, with Flixbus (although slower).

Days 20, 21 and 22- ROME -

Rome is one of our favorite cities and we always carry it in our little traveling heart. We believe it is an essential stop on any route to Europe, and more if you visit it for the first time. For us 3 days are fair if you really want to soak up the history and the importance of what was the capital of the world. Do it all! Enter the Colosseum, visit the Roman Forums, stroll through the Trastevere, get to know the local markets, the squares, the fountains ... Rome is the perfect finishing touch to your trip through Europe! If you have time, continue your trip through southern Italy to visit Naples and the Amalfi Coast.

Transport: We recommend the same as the previous section: arrive by train buying tickets in advance by trenitalia or italotreno. Or as a last alternative, the bus.

You will visit historical and modern cities, the best museums in the world, you will taste different gastronomies and you will take incredible memories of your trip through the old continent. Obviously other cities are left out just as interesting as the proposals, but somewhere you have to cut 😉

We want to emphasize that it is an itinerary designed for those who travel to Europe for the first time and who want to see as many more cities as possible. In future we will publish more itineraries 😉
